Although it is now quite a while since Svartsot have released new material, the band is still very much
\nalive and kicking. In the interim since 2015\u2019s \u201cV\u00e6ldet\u201d, the beer-soaked folk metallers have been active
\non the live scene in Denmark and abroad, including appearances at various major festivals as well as at
\nthe prestigious 70000 Tons Of Metal cruise in 2019. After a change of bassist and the decision to shelve
\nan album\u2019s worth of material in 2017\/18, the idea of releasing a collection of traditional folk songs that
\nhave inspired the band, reworked in Svartsot\u2019s characteristic style, was spawned.<\/p>\n
The original idea was to release this fifth album, entitled \u201cKumbl\u201d (an old Danish word meaning
\n\u2018monument\u2019 or \u2018memorial\u2019), in 2020 to coincide with Svartsot\u2019s 15th anniversary. However, due to
\nvarious practicalities, the album was first recorded \u2014 by none other than the band\u2019s drummer and upand-
\ncoming producer, Frederik Uglebjerg (www.uglebjerg.com) \u2014 during the pandemic. The release
\nalso marks the band\u2019s first collaboration with Danish metal label, Mighty Music.<\/p>\n
\u201cKumbl\u201d features 12 tracks that present a mixture of some relatively unknown and other more popular
\nfolk and late medieval songs from Denmark and across Northern Europe. Two songs feature guest
\nvocal appearances by Andrea Uglebjerg, vocalist in the Danish punk band Situationsforn\u00e6rmelse
\nand sister of aforementioned Frederik. Three singles will be released: \u201cLiden Kirsten\u201d is a traditional
\nDanish folk ballad telling the tale of how a king decided to make the lady of his desires the mother
\nof his children and his queen without telling her first; \u201cCarmen Vernale\u201d is a song from around 1500,
\nwritten by Morten B\u00f8rup, cantor at Aarhus Cathedral, praising the arrival of spring and performed in
\nthe original Latin \u2014 the melody is played each hour by the bells of Aarhus Townhall; \u201cDr\u00f8mte Mig
\nEn Dr\u00f8m\u201d is an elaboration on the oldest recorded Danish song, being handed down to us in a runic
\nmanuscript from ca. 1300. A music video will be released for \u201cLiden Kirsten\u201d, while a lyric video version
\nof \u201cDr\u00f8mte Mig En Dr\u00f8m\u201d will also be available.<\/p>\n
In support of the album, Svartsot have been booked for a series of concerts across Denmark. Whilst
\nonly a few European shows are booked or planned at the moment, more will hopefully follow, if travel
\nregulations permit.<\/p>\n
